Montessori Institute of Broward is proud to host the first and only Association Montessori Internationale Teacher Training course offered in Florida.

The course is offered by the Montessori Institute of San Diego training center at our campus. We are especially honored to have Dr. Silvia Dubovoy, Director of Primary Teacher Training of The Montessori Institute of San Diego, as the lead trainer for this program.

Dr. Dubovoy’s credentials are unparalleled in the AMI community and we are fortunate and privileged to have her. Graduates of this course will receive the prestigious AMI Primary Training Certificate, the only Montessori diploma bearing the copy written signature of Dr. Maria Montessori herself. Completion of the course will not only open the door to a world of opportunity in the field of Montessori education, but offer an in-depth psychological insight into children and their world.

Dr. Dubovoy is among the best-known, most prestigious and experienced primary level teacher trainers in the AMI community. She is also a lecturer, consultant, and examiner for the Association Montessori Internationale worldwide. She has been involved in Montessori education since 1965, as a parent, board member and coordinator of her children's school. Dr. Dubovoy holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, a Master's in Psychological research and Intervention, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Barcelona. She also has the AMI Primary, AMI Special Education, and AMI Assistants to Infancy Diplomas. Dr. Dubovoy is a Board member of AMI, headquartered in Amsterdam, since 1982 to this date. She is one of the AMI representatives to the United Nations. As a psychologist she studied and worked with Dr. Carl R. Rogers a humanistic psychologist.
Course Assistant of the Montessori Institute of San Diego. Ms. De Leon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Centro de Enseñanza Técnica y Superior in Tijuana, Mexico and a Masters in Pedagogy from State University of Pedagogy Studies and a M.Ed. from Loyola University Maryland. She received her AMI Montessori Primary Diploma and her AMI Elementary Diploma from the Montessori Institute of San Diego and has worked from 1998 to 2003 as a Primary teacher at Scripps Montessori School, in San Diego CA.

Guest trainer, Mr. Eduardo Cuevas, completed the AMI Primary Teacher Training in 1973 at the Centro De Estudios de Educación in Mexico City, and is the founder and director of the Centro De Estudios Montessori in Puerto Rico and El Caribe. Mr. Cuevas has lectured in Milwaukee, WI, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Gerona, Spain, and at Uppsala University (Sweden) and Trinity College (Hartford, CT). Besides having directed his own class in the school he founded in Puerto Rico, Mr. Cuevas also has extensive experience as a Montessori School Administrator and as Director of Parent Education Programs. Mr. Cuevas is a graduate of the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, and holds a Master's Degree in Primary Education from Loyola College (Baltimore, MD).
Ms. Gilda Bonnet, directs in Vancouver, BC, the Montessori Children's Community, the model class for their training center. She has 30 years experience as an AMI Montessori guide, having established model classrooms for the AMI training programs in Puerto Rico, Spain, and presently Canada.

CURRICULUM INCLUDES

  • Lectures on Montessori philosophy, child psychology and practices of education as related to early child development.
  • Presentations and discussion of the Montessori developmental materials: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Music, History, Art and Biology.
  • Supervised practice sessions for students with the materials, under the guidance of qualified staff.
  • Training in observational skills, and 90 hours of observation in A.M.I. classes.
  • Practice teaching in A.M.I. classes under supervision of the trainers.
  • Lectures on classroom management and how to start and operate a Montessori school/class.
  • Lectures on topics of related fields of study.
  • Seminars
  • Material making

 

THIS COURSE IS GIVEN OVER THREE SUMMERS

 

REQUIREMENTS/PROCEDURE

A bachelor's degree in any field of study is a standard for this course. The Course Director may make exceptions to this requirement under special circumstances and on an individual basis. Applicants must demonstrate personal suitability for training, including emotional maturity, integrity of character, intellectual creativity and the aptitude for psychological insight and understanding. In addition, applicants must demonstrate the ability for success in a rigorous course of study, clear oral and written communication skills, and strong organizational skills.

  • The applicant must provide college transcripts, two recent photographs, and a completed application form.
  • A non-refundable application fee must accompany a submitted application.
  • A personal interview may be required during the application process.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until enrollment has reached capacity, at which time a waiting list will be established. If enrollment does not reach the necessary quota, as defined by the Director of Training, the course will be canceled or rescheduled.

Students should budget approximately $650 for books, necessary materials for the course, copies, AMI fees, etc.

Housing and transportation are the responsibility of the student.
